The annual HTN Peter Howard AM Culinary Scholarship is another benefit that is exclusive to HTN Apprentices and Trainees. This scholarship, named after HTN’s official patron, is designed to provide a HTN apprentice with the opportunity to design their own culinary adventure, learning from the worlds best as they go.

The annual scholarship includes return airfares to the UK or China plus $5,000 in spending money.

HTN Apprentices can “self nominate” by creating a video submission of no more than 3 minutes duration addressing the following criteria:

  • Evidence of extra curricular activities relevant to their trade
  • Show a sincere passion for the industry
  • Outline how they would be a good ambassador for HTN and the industry in general
  • Outline what they would do with up to $5,000 in the UK or China to progress their hospitality career

Each year, HTN selects two (2) Year 12 students to be the recipients of the prestigious HTN Peter Howard AM Future Chef Scholarship. This opportunity awards tomorrow’s chefs with a week’s supported culinary adventure, including travel and accommodation, to train and gain valuable hands on experience with a leading industry partner.

This scholarship is open to all Year 12 students throughout NSW and ACT who are studying hospitality as part of their HSC and is awarded to passionate, enthusiastic students who are going make the most of this invaluable opportunity to launch their future career as a chef.

Peter Howard AM is one of Australia’s most recognised food and wine commentators with a growing international reputation as both a presenter and consultant on food, wine and tourism issues. He is passionate about all areas to do with food, wine and tourism.

For 16 years his national television segments, regular radio interviews and articles in magazines and newspapers have kept Australian audiences informed of the latest trends in food and wine. His extensive public appearances, both in Australia and overseas, have sharpened his communications skills which have led him to become one of Australia’s most sought after media and presentation skills trainers.

The foundation of his success is his professional background in hospitality. He is experienced in hotel and restaurant management (having run his own catering business and four restaurants in the 70s, 80s and 90s) and was a lecturer at the prestigious Ryde Catering College from 1979 to 1988.
